The Design Emphasis requires

The core courses for all theatre majors:

  • Introduction to Acting (THEA 1)
  • Visual Arts of the Theatre (THEA 2)
  • Theatre Crafts Sets/Costumes/Properties (THEA 20A)
    or Management/Lights/Sound (THEA 20B)
  • 3 Courses on the History of Theatre (THEA 110, THEA 111, and THEA 115)
  • Modern Dance (DANCE 10a or 10b)
  • A specialized movement class such as Kabuki (THEA 19), Mime (THEA 13), or Exploration of Cultual Style (DANCE 150)
  • Senior Seminar (THEA 190)
  • Senior Thesis (THEA 191)
  • 4 Theatre Production Crew Assignments (THEA 52)

  • Set Design (THEA 80)
  • Costume Design (THEA 81)
  • Lighting Design (THEA 82)

A student with a Design Emphasis in Theatre will be assigned to design for one of the departmental productions for their Senior Project in Performance. The Senior Thesis will be written the semester before and will deal with the assigned project.
